OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA

No more NaNoWriMo for me tonight.
CNN instead. That is all.
  • Current Music
Larry King's voice on my TV (as long as I don't have to look at him).

OK, I'm calling it a morning...

Ohio will pick our next president...

Sing it, Stevie!

I went back to Ohio but my pretty countryside
had been paved down the middle by a government that had no pride.
The farms of Ohio had been replaced by shopping malls
and Muzak filled the air from Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls.
Hey, ho, where’d you go, Ohio?

Wild Geese by Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.

You have only to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

I wish...

To celebrate our Americaness, I am fixing hamburgers and french fries for la_sherazade and myself. Afterwards, she is planning to make apple dumplings.

I am also making one of my specialties, the Corn of Joy and Sorrow. I created this recipe after hearing King Missile in concert.

Saute half a chopped onion and half a chopped bell pepper in 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon olive oil. (I prefer red bell pepper). This is the Sorrow.

Once the onion is translucent, add a can of corn and stir in a teaspoon of powdered ginger. This is the Joy.

Cook over low heat until corn is hot. The ginger, oil and butter should form a glistening sheen around the veggies.

Now, I post lyric for your enlightenment.

I have many many options
and a strong sense that freedom comes within
Where I shall never find it.
Freedom is lost, Failure is just around the corner and the only thing that
Consoles me is the sound of my voice,
and the fact that I don’t cut myself shaving
As often as I used to
But then, I don’t shave as often as I used to.
