“Freedom of Religion Not Recognized in Saudi Arabia, Says US Report”

Well, let’s see... According to the CIA World Fact Book, Saudi Arabia is an Islamic monarchy based on Shari’a, hence a THEOCRACY. Theocracies are not well known for their religious tolerance. Do we sanction the Holy See?

I’m declaring it International Recommend-A-Movie Day. This means everyone should go to their LJ right now and tell their friends to watch a really good movie which most of them probably have not seen. And then tell more people to do it. Hopefully, we’ll all have lots and lots of recommendations by the end of the day.

1. The Bed Sitting Room by Spike Mulligan, 1969.
Plot Summary: Set in post-nuclear-holocaust England, where a handful of bizarre characters struggle on with their lives in the ruins... With Dudley Moore, it’s surreal, like a Beckett comedy.

2. Below directed by David Twohy, 2002.
A WW II submarine ghost story from the director of Pitch Black. Better than it sounds.

3. House of Games, the 1987 David Mamet film, not the incredibly stupid 2004 TV series.
Listen for the line “I know there are things that normal people do, I just don’t know what they are.”

What do you recommend?
